Contemporary photography

These are pictures taken by Mark Zibert, David Drebin and from a site called Dagmara Photo - I received an advertisement by e-mail from a company whose main activity is site designing, and I came across these nice pictures.

100 years old

A friend of mine sent me a blog called "Shorpy-the 100 year photo blog" - amazing pictures, almost all b&w, good composition, great contrast, stories behind, technique, everything - enjoy. These are pictures taken by Arthur Siegel , Gertrude Kasebier and Toni Frisell.

The most important people in photography

I haven't browsed the Internet for pictures in a long time, but accidently I found this nice list of the most important people in photography in 2005 - I didn't look at the first 5, among whom there is Annie Leibovitz, but I randomly chose Art Streiber and not so randomly Patrick Demarchelier. Of course I chose the pictures that I like most, and of course I picked the actors that I mostly admire. Hope you like them all.

Edward Weston

During a short break from a conference I attended today, I got to read an article about Edward Weston, and well (shhhh...) another one about Platon (the photographer who got the chance to take a picture of Vladimir Putin for TIME magazine). The article about Edward Weston was in fact an interview with his 93 years old ex-wife Charis Wilson who was his model, lover, friend, muse for a long period of time. Apparently, Weston's involvement with women has dominated his reputation and Charis was the perfect model, lively, beautiful, uninhibited, playfully experimental, and always at hand.

Tina Modotti-one of his lovers

Picture with Margrethe Mather and Edward Weston. Margarethe Mather was a photographer and painter who worked in transforming photography to a modern art, exploring form and light. In her youth she worked as a prostitute.
